If you have just arrived, this page is the short version. It takes about two minutes.

What this is

Career Catalyst HQ publishes essays about career growth, workplace psychology and remote-work independence. Each one takes a single problem, explains the mechanism underneath it in plain language, and ends with something you can try this week.

It is a new publication. There are only a few essays so far, and they are listed on the archive page.

Who it is for

People who work without a manager standing next to them. Freelancers, remote workers, and anyone whose output depends on structure they have to build themselves.

Most career advice is written for people inside an office with a boss, a calendar somebody else fills, and a clear next task. If that advice has never quite transferred to your situation, this is written for you.

The one idea behind it

Advice fails when it targets the wrong part of a problem. Being told to be more disciplined, or to want it more, or to install a better app, all assume the difficulty starts once you have begun. Often the difficulty is upstream of that: the task has no clear first step, so there is nothing to start.

So each essay spends its time on the mechanism — what is actually happening — before it suggests anything. If the explanation is wrong, the advice will be too.

How the essays are made

Each piece is drafted with AI assistance and edited by a human before publication. That is stated on every essay and it is not buried. Every essay is also required to contain at least one detail supplied by a person rather than a model — if that detail is missing, the essay waits.
